Artful Sentiments is an artist owned and operated business, and is devoted to sharing creativity and joy through our enchanting images.  Each design is brought to life with much care and anticipation. 

    Our original designs are created using traditional lino block printing techniques.  The design is sketched, and then transferred to a block for carving.  Each detail of the design is carved by hand.  After carving, ink is painted on or applied using a brayer, and the inked block is pressed onto the paper.  In some cases, multiple blocks are used to achieve a single design.  As with all hand printing techniques, variations are expected from one print to the next, which adds to the appeal of these delightful works of art.

    One afternoon while I was demonstrating carving techniques at a local craft store, a customer asked, “Why would you send a squirrel card?” My cousin Kristin responded that you could use it for any occasion – depending on what you put in the squirrel’s paws.    

    That was the beginning of the “Squirrel Series” of cards.  I have used the squirrel carving, along with other blocks, to create cards for many occasions - my cousin Kristen’s bridal shower (Squirrel Bride), my goddaughter Meghan’s birthday (Squirrel with Present), “I'm Nuts about You” Valentine (Squirrel with heart), and many more. 

    I thought it was only fitting that a design that demonstrated so many creative uses for my prints, and that was so well loved, should become my logo.
